I'm sorry, my intent is not to scare you about the Lupron, but all of that info is true and anyone taking it should absolutely know everything about it, because doctors sure won't tell you. Most doctors seem to push Lupron on all of us so hard! I'm a little confused as to why your doctor wants you to do the Lupron right before surgery....is it just to stop your period? I agree with Anon, below. You could take something as simple a few birth control pills for a few days or something to stop your period and that would be safer.

I've heard that some doctors actually prefer you be on your period for laps, because the lesions "bleed" and they can see them more clearly during the operation. I've only heard of doctors giving patients Lupron for a few months before surgery if they have huge cysts, and for the Lupron to shrink them, making them easier to remove.

I would not put that harmful drug in me just to stop a period though. That does not make much sense. I'm really skeptical of trusting most doctors now, even if they are "specialists". I went to a specialist in Ft. Worth in May, before I found the doc I go to now, and he was a moron when it came to knowing hormones. He said my bio-identical progesterone would kill me because it was such a large dose and called my general practitioner a quack. He said me feeling better from it was "my imagination!" I was so offended. He was so condescending. He did not know that only 3-4% of natural hormones are absorbed, not the whole amount! I was surprised by that.

Dr. Redwine in Oregon, who everyone says is one of the best in the country is very against Lupron and won't use it. Find out what your doctors intentions are...you can always have the surgery without the Lupron. That is your right.
