Re: non narcotic pain meds, any ideas? From: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Sep 15 16:35:15 2007
Awwww, that sucks. I know how hard it is to get the pain meds you really need. It took me until I was 28 to find a doctor who would prescribe me some vicodin only because I showed her that I had been to the emergency room 3 times that year for severe pain! These docs just don't get it. Endo pain is BAD! I've had Ultram too and it does absolutely nothing. I think it's more of an anti-inflammatory and it gave me an ulcer. If you have any kind of documentation ie. sonograms, tests or paperwork saying that you have endo, I would take those to a pelvic pain doctor to get some pain meds because it is nearly impossible to get them from regular OB's. The only thing that worked better that Ultram was taking 800mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours. You could maybe ask your regular doc for muscle relaxers because those are non-narcotic, but it's hard to get those out of reg docs too. My pelvic pain doc had no problem giving me the meds I need, but pain docs keep track of how much you take, so you can only take them when you need them and they want to document that you have a legitimate reason for prescribing you the pain meds. good luck with this!
