Re: Femara, Ovulation, and PregnancyFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Sep 12 21:17:27 2007
Hi there, I know estrogen is the worst thing you could be taking if you have endo, but that's your doctor's fault! - That's what endo feeds on and it makes it grow. My two doctors who I see say the same thing and one is a specialist of 30 years. Progesterone is often given to women who are wanting to get pregnant because it nourishes the uterus and keeps it stable. I take the bio-identical (natural kind) just to reduce my endo symptoms and it prevents the chronic yeast infections I always used to get too! When a woman is pregnant, her natural progesterone level goes up to 4 times what it normally is, to keep the pregnancy safe. That is actually why a lot of doctors say that getting pregnant "cures" endo pain, because all that progesterone supresses the estrogen and keeps the endo from growing and even can shrink it some. But, after giving birth, most womens' symptoms return. Some women miscarry due to the fact that their body does not produce enough progesterone to keep the endometrium (lining of the uterus) in tact. Taking synthetic estrogen also reduces your body's natural ability to produce it's own natural progesterone. You should maybe try to find a doctor who knows more about hormones, my goodness. :( Femara is a category D drug, which means it can harm a fetus if you are on it. I know they use it now to stimulate ovulation, but is it worth the risk if it can cause harm to the baby? Here is a link on it: http://health.yahoo.com/drug/d04156a1 My advice is to get another opinion from a different doctor. So many docs out there are ignorant on how to treat endo and they just make it worse. I wish you the best of luck!
