Re: rmoval of one ovary - to Hes911

I had my left ovary removed in January because of a large cyst. I asked the doctor how that would affect me and he said that I would still be able to have children and that was the end of that discussion. What a gross understatement for me! I still had endo so was I was on birth control to try and help ease that pain. With just one ovary and being on birth control, my hormones were completely out of whack! Birth control supresses your ovarian functions and then gives you synthetic progesterone and/or estrogen. What it doesn't replace is the testosterone that your ovaries naturally produce. I had no energy, no strength, no libido--it has been awful! It has been a much bigger impact on my life than the doctor ever discussed with me. So if you are planning on being on birth control I would ask your doctor a lot of questions!!!
