Re: IBS and Endo to KathyFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Jul 23 13:45:31 2007
Kathy, You can have regular or irregular periods with endo. But, IBS pain can also be mistaken for endo pain. I have been telling doctors for years that my period always starts with me having to sit on the toilet for 2-3 hours and baring down, because it feels like my guts are going to fall out. The cramps are so bad, then I start bleeding really heavy. I realized after talking to my aunt that half of my cramps ARE from IBS. I get it right before my period. It's hard to distinguish sometimes because part of your bowels are right behind your uterus, so you think it's ALL uterus pain, but it's not. I do have endo, but I also have IBS. I was NEVER given any medicine for IBS, until I asked for the pills my aunt was taking. It's called Bentyl, it's an anti-spazmotic pill for IBS. It does help. The only side effect I've had from it is drowsiness and the good news is, it's only $7.00 for the generic brand (60 of them)! I wish I would have learned about it years ago, but doctors were never paying attention to what I was saying. You have to really watch certain foods you eat too, because some foods make the cramps way worse! I can't have anything spicy, caffeine or alcohol before my period or my endo and IBS get super bad! Hope this helps!
