Re: Feeling depressed, hoping for luck with new OBFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jul 19 21:17:50 2007
Hi, Kelly. You should not feel bad at all that you HAVE to take pain meds. Unless there is a total cure for this, what else do we do to function? It's not like you're taking them for fun. Endo can cause pain on a daily basis and IBS can be everyday or just with your period like I get. If I were you, I would not bother going to another OB. I have been to literally 10 OB's in the last 10 years and my general practitioner and NEW endo & pelvic pain specialist have been the only ones to believe me that my pain was bad enough to give me painkillkers. OB's reallly don't know much about endo and are don't have the extensive training that specialists do to even know how serious this disease is and of all the places it can grow in your body! So many OB's have upset me, been rude & made me feel like my life was over. I had been to the emergency room about 4 times before finding my practitioner, who is a life-saver. If you go to a pelvic pain specialist they will most likely give you pain meds, but they will want to do some tests first. Mine did a sonogram to see some of the extent of my endo and I told him of all my symptoms. He could tell that I had an abnormally thick uterus lining, I had an ovarian cyst, and my ovaries would not move like they are supposed to, which meant they are fastened down by the endo lesions. They want to make sure you are lot lying just to get meds, document it to cover themselves so they don't get in trouble. You can only use one pharmacy. I was given 60 10mg Lortab with one refill before December. 120 pills for 6 months is more than I need. A couple things that help me are Arnica Montana, an herbal anti-inflammatory you can get at Whole Foods or the Vitamin Shoppe and Bentyl, an anti-spazmotic drug for IBS. I have to watch what I eat the 2-3 days before and during my period or my cramps and IBS get so so bad! Here is a link to a pelvid pain website that can maybe help you find a doc for this: http://www.pelvicpain.org/ Good luck with this and know you are not alone. We all have to take stuff like that, but it's the only way we can function sometimes. Take Care, Andrea
