Re: Anyone who tried Lupron, please respond.From: E (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Jul 16 16:29:29 2007
I'm probably in the minority, but I would say go for it. I normally do not respond well to any type of hormonal medication (including birth control), so I expected the Lupron to be absolutely horrible and was completely dreading it, but it hasn't been too bad. I'm getting my last shot on Wednesday (6 month course of treatment). The first two weeks were pretty bad - I had one of the worst periods of my life, my brain wouldn't function and I felt completely dumb, I had some hotflashes and night sweats, and I had an almost constant headache. After that, though, things got much better. By the end of my second month, all of my endo pain and symptoms were completely gone. After about 3 months, I realized that the meds were causing some depression, so I talked to my dr. about add back, and got on Aygestin. That made me feel 110% better in about two days. I have been having some recurring pain in the past couple of months, which is either a result of stress or add back. My only other symptoms have been oily skin and acne that nothing seems to help, weight gain (18 lbs. in 5 months, which does not reflect the way I've been taking care of myself at all), and some vaginal dryness. This stuff effects everyone differently, so the only way you'll really be able to know what it does to you is to try it. Talk to you dr. about getting monthly shots rather than the 3 month ones. If you have a hard time with it, you can stop mid-treatment, rather than having to wait out the last two or so months. Good luck with whatever you choose!
