Re: 2nd ultrasound - what to expectFrom: Monica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jul 3 14:46:36 2007
With the problems that you have been having, I would ask him/her about endo and if he/she would like you to have a lap. That is the only way that it can be diagnosed. Ultrasounds will only show if you have cysts on your ovaries or not, but it won't show endo. If I were you, I would do the lap as soon as possible. I nearly hugged my doctor when he suggested it. No one should be in pain for any reason. Doctors are going to throw a lot of information at you about things so get lots of brochures or even take someone with you that can also listen in. Chances are if you forget something the other person will remember. There is nothing wrong with asking for a lap either. Especially with family history. I was lucky enough that all I had to do was tell my doctor my symptoms and he wanted to schedule the lap. Most important, if you don't understand something, have the doctor explain it in detail. Don't let him/her try to put you on medicine right away either. I had doctors just want to throw pills at me to alleviate the symptoms when I really needed to figure out what it was. Also, find out what they can give you for pain. Some doctors will prescribe the real heavy duty stuff (hydrocodone) and some refuse. Don't let them give you Celebrex for pain. Personally I use Naproxen Sodium...find out the side effects from whatever the doctor prescribes (like stomach problems). Just don't let your doctor dismiss you and your symptoms. We all know what that is like...that's why sometimes it takes ten years to find out what is wrong with us.
