Re: How long did you bleed and how heavy after lap? and more info

I have had it done before, last October. I am scheduled again on 7/3 at 1pm. I saw my dr for preop today and we discussed a whole bunch of things. Last time I bled for 5 weeks. He said that is not as uncommon as one would think and it does happen for some women like that. Said it can throw off your cycle. BUT I did not break through at all when I had knee surgery which he found very interesting. So we'll take that as we go.

I also tend to get uterine infections. I had one each time I had a baby and after the last lap. We discussed writing me a rx for augmentin. However, because I have had them before and required iv antibiotics, he said he will have me on iv antibiotics in the preop before surgery and during surgery. He said it would last for about 10 hours. He said he would make sure that it was strong.

No catheter if I pee before surgery.

I can eat lightly and drink clear fluids up to 5am. The mean nurse told me nothing after midnight but he said that was an unreasonable expectation. He said just don't eat chicken wings or something like that at 4am.

Nausea and vomiting - I get terribly sick (nauseated and vomiting) from GA. The first time I don't think the nurse did her job. I didn't eat or pee before I left and she was pushing me out the door. I did take a few sips of water and managed to throw up the entire night and into the next day. Not very nice with a lap. Then when I had knee surgery, I was nauseated too. I drank and immediately started throwing up so they said I had to stay the night. I asked him if he was going to make me stay the night if I throw up because the next day would be 4th of July! He said if I was throwing up I had to stay. If I was sick to my stomach, we would see how I was doing and discuss it then. I kind of laughed when he said I would get an extra dose of Zofran. He said what's wrong with Zofran. Umm only that he had me on it for 6 months when I was pregnant and it didn't work. It didn't work for the lap. It didn't work when I had knee surgery. He said he was also going to do steroids that that sometimes helps??? I told him when I had knee surgery they gave me reglan, zofran, tigan, and compazene. I just had to wait till the anesthesia was out of my system. So he said he would see how it would go. This time I am packing a small bag (toothbrush, toothpaste, loestrin, and hairbrush and deoderant) just in case.

So all of my questions were totally answered thoroughly. I just worry about a) puking again, definitely not fun and very painful with a lap b) infection c) bleeding.

I am getting nervous again. I was extremely nervous for my preop appts. I don't know why. I brought my 8 year old with me to keep me company because I knew she would keep me entertained. She did she showed me that she had tatooed her barbie!!!!!!!!!
