Re: EndometriosisFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jun 27 16:38:15 2007
Hi Angie. It sounds like you have IBS with your periods like I do. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) Most endo sufferers seem to have it and I think endo aggravates it or even causes it. Half the pain with my periods I think is due to the IBS. I had extreme bloating and gas pain with either constipation or diarhhea or both the first 2 days of my cramps. My aunt suggested a pill she's on for it called BENTYL, an anti-spazmotic pill. It helps a lot, I've had no bloating or gas pain since, (although I still have pain from the endo in my ovaries) and the only side effect I've had is drowsiness. If we have endo on our bowels and IBS, they are sensitive to certain foods, so you also have to watch what you eat and drink before your period. Avoid things with a lot of salt (even though we crave it at that time!) caffeine and alcohol. I think a bit of chocolate is ok, but avoid coffee and sodas and drink lots of water! Dehydration makes cramps a hell of a lot worse. Hope this helps.
