Re: Finding Endo SpecialistsFrom: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jun 26 11:16:11 2007
Hi Kalyssa - It isn't just hard to find a specialist in Maryland, I'm sorry to say! There are very few doctors anywhere that are real endo specialists with the skills to thoroughly excise the disease. There are a lot of reasons, but mainly it seems to come down to money - it takes time and skills to do excision surgery properly, while it doesn't take any time at all to give an injection of Lupron or write a prescription. $$$. Good excision surgery can take hours, most obgyns who burn the disease off do laps that might last an hour - some women have posted that their doctors didn't remove all of the disease because they "ran out of time"! Anyway, you're right, it is hard to find an endo specialist and there may not be one near you, many women travel for surgery. On the east coast, there are some doctors in NYC I'm not very familiar with, and there is the Center for Endo Care in Atlanta and Dr. Robbins in Maine (I think Dr. R is in-network for some insurance, most specialists are not). You might want to try to find a local gyn to work with day-to-day, and travel to one of the specialists for surgery. Here are links to their websites: http://www.centerforendo.com/ http://www.endoexcision.com/ There's a link to the endo docs yahoo group below, that's one good place to look for a doctor. Also this link has a list: http://www.geocities.com/endovictims/endodocs.html There have been some good discussions about why it's so hard to find an endo specialist on the ERC yahoo group, there's also a link to it below. I really recommend that group, I learned a lot there! I hope this helps!
