Re: Anyone else have trouble with urinary urgency, frequency, incontinence? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Jun 9 19:49:29 2007
I have been posting for many months about my urinary issues. I have found that the women on this forum are absolutely wonderful in sharing their experiences, and lending support. I will share my full story with you to this point, but you will have to bear with me-it is long (I tend to ramble). Okay-I am 28 years old and have been diagnosed with endo for 11 years. Had 3 laps each time confirming endo-the second one was stage 3-they didn't tell me what stage at this point-probably due to my other issues. About 18 months ago I was struck with a urinary tract infection (uti)this is the first time I had a uti other than when I was pregnant. At that point I just took their antibiotics and shrugged it off. Okay-now I am sick stomache fluish type of sick which I could count on both hands how many times that had happened to me in my life. I beared with that as well. Well-a few months later I had my 3rd uti and that is when my obgyn decided to take me off of the nuva ring (thinking maybe it was linked to having something there-in case you didn't already know-the nuva ring is inserted into the vagina and removed the third week). That didn't work, once the 5th UTI came around I was urinating 4-5 times at night and wetting my pants-when I had to go I had to go now, I also had problems around the time of my period making it to the bathroom to do #2 (I never had this problem before either). At this appointment I asked if we should do a kidney function test-my flank pain was horrid-and that was the only way for me to identify that I had a uti. The doctor said that we could do a kidney function test-but he thought my kidneys were fine. I put a lot of trust in my doctor and had always felt comfortable with him-so I believed him. He did however put me on Detrol LA to control the bladder spasming. At my 6th appointment the doctor drew my urine through a catheter and it still came back infected. The 7th time I went in the doctor said he didn't know what else to tell me, he felt he was out of answers. He just kind of shrugged his shoulders-I told him how frustrated I was-that I was living with this excruciating pain and I wasn't doing anything wrong. I wipe the same way I always wiped front to back, and since the uti's I started using wet wipes after bowel movements-just to be safe. I drank what I thougt was enough water which was about 60-80oz a day 3-4 bottles of water. I was trying to dring cranberry juice on a daily basis-none of this helped. He told me that he seen patients sicker than me every day-this is when I started to cry-he tried to redeem himself by saying that it was easy for him to say. I felt so wronged. I went home that night and typed a 3 page letter-giving him ideas of what I thought it could be. Two weeks later my phone rang at about 9:30pm-he had just read my letter, and agreed with what I had to say. We agreed to do a cystoscopy to look for interstitial cystitis and a laparoscopy to look to make sure the endo wasn't growing on the urinary tract. I had the lap & cystoscopy done on May 23rd. The endo had redeveloped on the left ligament, on the back of the uterus, and on the left ovary. There was also scar tissue on the inside of my abdominal wall that he cut off. Nothing showed up on the cystoscopy except some scarring from all of the infections. So I go in for my 2 week post op appointment and I told the doc that my right flank still hurt-at this point it is a constant dull ache, but it was still flaring up-sharp shooting pains-I could barely function when that happened and told him there are times when I want to go in and rip my kidney out myself. So I asked him-could this be a kidney stone-he looks at me and says we would've caught that in the begining-then looks at my chart. My last ultrasound on my kidney was just after my son was born 2 1/2years ago before the uti's began. He looked at me again and said lets schedule a CT Scan. So Thursday afternoon I had my CT Scan done and the tech said she needed to check with the doctor to make sure no other pictures were needed and she would be back in a few moments. Fifteen minutes or so passed and she comes back into the room and told me that they did find a large kidney stone that I had already passed through my kidney and it is now in my ureter. I was not to leave, drink fluids, or have the IV removed until they had heard back from my doctor. Another nurse walks in and says-you can go home the doctor will be calling you tonight with orders and with some meds. Well I didn't here back from my doctor on Thursday night, nor during the work day Friday, so when I got home last night I called the clinic who told me he was already gone for the day. Well what am I supposed to do-do I catch it, How long is this going to take, and when do I come in if it doesn't pass. According to Web MD a kidney stone smaller than 5mm can be passed 80-90% of the time. Mine is 6mm. My husband was livid-he called the hospital where I had the proceedure done and told them that someone needs to do their job. Needless to say my doctor calls me 5 minutes later. He told me he did leave me a message. He told me not to save the stone since I am only 28 and it is the first one I've had (to me it is the first one diagnosed). He said the pain I am currently in is the worst I will be in, and once the stone is passed I will feel immediate relief. I asked if there could be kidney damage from this and he said not likely since my kidney wasn't dialated. They are not going to give me anything to help break up or dissolve the stone. I am just supposed to drink a lot, and take the vicoden that they perscribed. Needless to say I will be getting a refferal to see a urologist about this issue (maybe that is what I should have done to begin with). I guess my advice to you is do some research on your own-find out all of what it could be and get everything checked out. To me-I have been living with this pain for 18 months-the same pain so since it doesn't take that long to produce a stone-I probably had them before-just smaller, and between all of the infections and the stone(s)-how could there not be any kidney issues. This could be serious, and I would hate for someone else to get the run around that I have. So please do your research-ask your doctor questions, see a specialists. Good Luck!!! April
