Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms?From: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jun 8 08:58:37 2007
I wanted to note that menopause does not always "cure" endo! Just like the medically-induced menopause of Lupron doesn't always help endo pain, neither hysterectomy (surgical menopause) nor natural menopause are any guarantee that the endo will go away. Seeing a really good endo excision specialist like Dr. S is the best thing you can do for yourself at this point, in my opinion. And being that the only treatment for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy, if I wasn't really certain I think it's totally reasonable to have the endo thoroughly excised first, then if that doesn't help enough, you can alway have the hysterectomy later. Although multiple surgeries raise the risk of adhesions, it would be worth it to me take that risk for the chance of saving my uterus. (Sometimes it shows up on ultrasound or MRI, but not reliably enough for a conclusive diagnosis.) A lot of women with endo seem to have a tilted uterus, but I've never heard anything about it being connected to adenomyosis - maybe someone else can clear that up? Good luck!
