Re: ally bad pain after internal exam? to DebbieFrom: Debbie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jun 7 22:30:48 2007
Hi Josie, It's possible that your uterus could appear normal on the surface but have something going on at a deeper level. Adeno is not necessarily visible to the naked eye, and can still be missed on ultrasound and MRI. The only definitive way is to either take biopsies or send the entire thing to the pathology lab after a hysterectomy. However, none of these things are actually going to help and occasionally you can get by with a presumptive diagnosis only if your symptoms fit. Just knowing you have it makes you think about it and research it more, but even then, if you find out you have it, there is no cure and the only thing left is hysterectomy. I know it sucks and it's very depressing but if you do have it it's only going to get worse. At the same time you don't want to go and have a hysterectomy and then find out you didn't have it! Hold on for a while and track your pain. Read up on Adeno and see if it fits. Maybe you can have a biospy in the future. I hope you won't need another lap but if you do that would be a good time to take it. My doc took one because he actually saw the Adeno on ultrasound before he did the surgery because the lesions were so obvious. At the end of the day it's all about quality of life. Right now mine is going downhill at a rapid rate, and no matter how much I protest I know that a hysterectomy is inevitable for me after seeing the photos from my lap, and knowing that this condition is getting more and more progressive. I hope you find your answers.
