My doctor basically told me the same thing but as a choice of options, not an ultimatum. I have a very good relationship with my doctor and he always goes through all my options. It should be you who decides your treatment, not him, because it is ultimately your body. If any doctor gives an ultimatum like that I would consider finding a different doctor.
