Re: Any one have panick attacks?From: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu May 31 18:17:04 2007
I'm so sorry!! That's awful that your pets have to leave! But I'm glad you found them a home, what a rotten turn of luck. I wish there was something we could do. Well, maybe I can help you a little with the panic attacks? I used to get them really bad and it does sound something like what I used to feel, but like someone else said it is possible that your medications are bringing them on. The first time it happened to me I was out of town in the middle of a class for my job, and all of a sudden I couldn't breath, I was so dizzy and felt like I was going to die! My heart was beating really fast, I had to leave the room and didn't know what was happening to me. Someone found me in the hallway so scared I thought I was having a heart attack or I didn't know WHAT was happening to me! An ambulance was called, and by the time they got me to the hospital I was okay. I felt so stupid! And of course everyone I worked with found out, too. So you are definitely not the only one who has gone through that! About the medications - taking Reglan and Phenergan together can increase the side effects of both meds, and Phenergan can have some really unpleasant side effects - shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, tense twitchy muscles, restlessness, sweating, shaking, and more that can feel a LOT like a panic attack, or worse! Some few people who are very sensitive to it can hallucinate, have a difficult time swallowing or breathing, and even seizures are possible - here's a list of the most serious side effects of phenergan: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682284.html * wheezing * slowed breathing * breathing stops for a short time * fever * sweating * stiff muscles * decreased alertness * fast or irregular pulse or heartbeat * faintness * abnormal or uncontrollable movements * hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist) * confusion * overwhelming or unmanageable fear or emotion * seizures * shaking of a part of the body that you cannot control * unusual bruising or bleeding * sore throat, fever, chills, and other signs of infection * uncontrolled eye movements * tongue sticking out * abnormal neck position * inability to respond to people around you * yellowing of the skin or eyes * rash * hives * swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, throat, arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs * hoarseness * difficulty breathing or swallowing I avoid phenergan as much as possible (and only take very small doses when I do take it) because I don't deal with the side effects very well, and I've met a couple other women who had really bad reactions to it. I think you should talk to your doctor about stopping the phenergan and see if that helps first. It's also a good idea to talk to your pharmacist about what happened and see what they say - often a pharmacist will have more experience with side effects and mixing drugs than the doctor. Almost all of us need to "do something" about our stress levels, but I really do hope you'll be sure to be very kind to yourself! And do have some good times with your pets! I wish so much that your landlord would relent and let you keep them... Good luck!
