I am the type not to panic until afterwards, but the day of my surgery I admit to being a mess. They put me on an IV for a while before the surgery while we waited on the doctor to arrive, it was done at an out patient facility. The nurses were all extreamly wonderful & I had plenty of blankets to stay warm. If you're like me, you won't be able to take any pain medication since you won't be able to eat before the surgery, don't be afraid to tell the nurses that you're in pain and ask for medication! They will, I'm sure, be happy to make you more comfortable as they did me. General anesthesia is an amazing thing! It was very nice to be able to go into the surgery room & less than 30 seconds after they put the drug into the IV you're out. You get to skip all the stressful stuff & wake up feeling relaxed and happy that it's over. I stress right up until they put me under, but I promise it'll be fine and you'll feel much better afterwards.. maybe even amused, about how you went to sleep relaxed. I'm going to have to have another laparoscope by an intestinal specialist later this year, and because of the first one I'm very much more relaxed about it. My mom made a suggestion before my next one though that I am going to pass on to you! Go buy a pair of pregnancy undies, not the cute small kind but the big hold your stomach lightly kind. Make sure the elastic band at the top isn't firm & undies withough an elastic band might be even better. Anyhow, the point of them is that they can hold your stomach still without pushing on it. Also, if you need to cough, press a pillow to your stomach & it'll be much easier. My last piece of advice has to with the speed of recovery, pace yourself! Your level of recovery will go up and down probably. Three days after my surgery I was feeling much better than the day after, but then three days after that I hadn't made much progress... but then two days later I made another drastic step towards feeling better! Slowely, you'll begin to feel that you really do feel better than before you went in, you'll feel how the endometriosis isn't there pulling and being nasty anymore. The relief is amazing & I hope you can look forward to your surgery with eager anicipation of relief instead of fear, because when it's all over, you'll be very relieved. ~tabbs
