Re: Natural vs synthetic PROGESTERONE

The treatment of endometrial hyperplasia depends partially on the "complex" and the "atypical" features of the cells that were examined to make the diagnosis. Natural progesterone is marketed as Prometrium and it has few side effects (may simulate PMS but most of my patients don't have any problems with it). I don't treat the more advanced hyperplasias, but gynecologists often want a strong dose of progestin to counteract the tendency for the endometrium to grow. I don't know what dose of prometrium would be suggested, or if they would consider it without clinical trials for this indication??

Best of luck
