Re: Adeno?From: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Apr 26 21:06:21 2007
Hi Tasha - It's really impossible to say whether it's the endo or the possible adeno, especially since your doctor did not remove your endo and it was right behind your uterus. You need to find a doctor with the skills to help you, unfortunately your current doctor doesn't have those skills. The best chance for relief I know of is to see an endo specialist who can excise the endo thoroughly first, and if you are still having a lot of midline pain then you might think about a hysterectomy. Some women get relief from a presacral neurectomy - during lap surgery they cut the nerve from the uterus, with something like 75% of patients with midline pain seeing at least some improvement. (sorry I'm not sure about that stat, but believe it is close) Your doctor might want to do an MRI, sometimes adeno can be seen on an MRI or ultrasound - but neither of those can give a definitive diagnosis. The only way to diagnose adenomyosis is to remove the uterus and biopsy it, but then again hysterectomy is also usually the only treatment available. It's a poorly understood disease, probably less even than endo. I'm glad the Lupron has helped the pain some, but honestly I'm not a fan of the drug. Have you talked to your doctor about what you'll do after you discontinue the Lupron? Most people who do get relief find that the pain comes back when the suppression wears off and the menstrual cycle starts to return. I hope this helps!
