Re: Does anyone else find that...

Hi Carmy -

I think a lot of us have dealt with this kind of attitude at least to some degree - endo is poorly understood, a lot of people still think it's "just cramps". It stinks, I agree! One thing to remember is that endo pain can be excruciating - I've heard it compared to the pain of having acute appendicitis all the time.

It sounds like you are in a lot of pain - you should talk to your doctor about your pain and getting it treated. You should not be hurting like this! It isn't necessary, and untreated chronic pain can cause other problems. Keeping a pain diary can really help you and your doctor, and it can give you somewhere else to vent on what is happening to you. If your doctor won't treat the pain, or insists on undertreating it, you may need to get a referral to a pain management doctor or find a new doctor who will help you. There have been some good posts about pain management the past few days so you may want to go back and read those, too.

The other thing is to learn as much about endo as you can, so that you can educate those who are willing to learn. Not everyone who disbelieves your pain now will be receptive, but some will. These are a few websites that might help:

http://www.endocenter.org http://www.endometriosissurgeon.com http://www.endometriosispaintreatment.com

I'm really sorry you are having trouble with these other people, but you need to remember to take care of yourself first and try not to worry about them. In a way, I think they are trying to tell you that they are concerned - even if it is ham-handed and coming across terribly. There's a "letter from survivors" of endo that I found on the web and can't find right now - maybe someone else will read this and knows the link and can post it, but it's a good explanation of what endo is and what it does to a woman, written as if to a relative or friend who doesn't get it. I've known some women who carry a copy to share with people they need to understand. Sorry I can't find it now, but if no one posts the link I'll dig it up this afternoon.

Good luck! You are not alone!

D.
