Re: bloodclotsFrom: Tasha (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Mar 9 14:35:19 2007
I have had a blood clot before so that is why I personally am high risk but the first thing they asked me when I was diagnosed was if there was a family history of clots. There was not in my case but my kids now have to tell their docs that there is a family history of them. So basically if you have a family history of clots or clotting disorders your doc should know. There is a blood test they can do to see if you have something in your blood that makes you prone to clots but this is not something that is a standard test. For me they think the reason I got a clot was because your blood thickens when you are pregnant and then I had emergency surgery that kept me off my feet for a few days which just made conditions perfect for a clot. I'm not sure what other things put you at a higher risk but this is what I have learned from my experience. Tasha
