Re: Free Fluid in Pelvis: PLEASE HELP!!

I've had so many doctors seem completely unconcerned by the fact that I have Endometriosis, just as in your case. I don't know how many times I've been in the ER complaining of severe pain (usually a ruptured cyst which can leak fluid into the pelvic are and cause severe pain, infections, fever etc.) I get abnormal sized cysts which rupture all the time. I know exactly what they feel like and the signs/symptoms. The doctor's always shrug and say "well Endometriosis probably has nothing to do with this, you probably have appendicitis" I'm like HELLO I have ENDOMETRIOSIS, and I do not have appendicitis...I have no appendix! Endometriosis is serious! Why won't you listen to me! And the truth is most doctors don't know crap about it! So when a doctor shrugs, or seems totally unconcerned get rid of 'em. I've gotten to the point where I don't trust anything a doctor says (yes this is sad) but I've been told more lies than truth. Unless I'm talking to an Endo expert. Even if your doc is an OBGYN...I've found most know little about Endometriosis(also very sad). I once went to an OBGYN who listed on her website bio as having experience with treating Endo. When I saw her, she looked at me shrugged and said "Well, Endometriosis is tough to treat, so there's not much that I can do for you" I was appaled...needless to say I never paid her 350 dollar fee to hear her blow wind at me! I simply never went back to her and looked for another doc. It's ironic that a lot of the women I talk to who have Endo, don't have a good GYN, or they go through like 10 or 20 before finding a good one that knows about Endo. I couldn't believe this woman claimed to be "experienced treating Endometriosis" and she basically said-sorry I can't help you because I don't know anything about treating Endo, I lied. Anyway...I would suggest that if you are not happy with your doctor (for whatever reason, even if you've been with her/him awhile) go seek out a doctor who is an expert in Endo. I don't think it is something to shrug off for example, if you are getting free fluid in your pelvic area. It is very common for women with Endo to get large abnormal cysts which rupture and cause free fluid in that area. My guess would be that this is probably what is causing the free-standing fluid you have. If you want to talk to me more about this problem feel free to email me: "meenee@gmail.com" I have a long history of ovarian cysts/ruptured cysts, endometrial cysts, so I can tell you all about 'em. Grrr it makes me so upset to hear about doctors like this...at least she could have said "sorry I'm not sure what is causing this, but you may want to see a specialist since I'm not that familiar with Endometriosis. As women with this disease, we need to learn as much about it as possible, so we can protect ourselves from mis-information and those doctors who may do more harm than good. When in doubt, seek another opinion. Good luck with everything. -Nic
