Re: Pregnant and MiserableFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Feb 12 07:17:42 2007
Shannon, I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain, especially when this experience should be a happy one. I recently had a physical therapist suggest deep tissue massage for adhesion release. I have no idea if this is safe during a pregnancy, so you absolutely must talk to your doctor about it. She suggested a couple of massage therapists she knew and said that the pain is quite intense when they are actually physically releasing the adhesions, but the relief afterward is usually worth it. That may be something that would help that tearing feeling. My other suggestion would be acupuncture. It is typically safe for pregnant women, but of course you should talk to your doctor. I found it to be extremely effective in easing the intensity of my pain on a week to week basis. They can treat pain and other issues as well. The entire theory behind it is to address your overall health and well being. If you are nervous about the needle aspect, don't be. The needles are often only hair thin and you can't feel them at all. It doesn't feel like someone is sticking needles in you. My acupuncturists would spend 1-2 hours with me every saturday. I got to just lay there under heat and take a nap, then the acupunturist would remove the needles and give me a full body acupressure massage. If nothing else it made a huge difference in my mood, made me feel so relaxed and attended to (they would spend alot of time asking how I was feeling and really listening to me). It can get pricey, so check with your insurance for possible discounts or coverage. I have Blue Cross HMO and they actually covered 20%. Alyson
