Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the site! I had my very first surgery in November, 2006. I also had never had surgery before and I was very scared. However, my experience was a very positive one overall. I had to stay overnight in hospital to make sure I was OK and I didn't necessarily sleep very well (could have also been my noisy neighbours!). I did vomit twice because of the anestetic (sp?) but nothing too serious. I was in a little bit of discomfort but the nurses were really good about giving me pain meds through IV as well as Gravol to ease my nausea, so that helped. I was discharged very early the next morning.

Since they only used surgical tape on the tiny incisions, it bled a bit under the tape but nothing I couldn't easily handle. The only main problem I had through the whole experience was the awful gas pains (because they inflate your abdominal area with gas so they can see what they are doing in there). It will go away in a few days but it always feels like you're going to fart! :) Gross, but true. There was barely any pain at all. I had 2 weeks off of work which was a perfect amount of time and I live with my best friend so she was able to take care of me.

I have absolutely NO pain tolerance at all but I was able to get through this with no trouble.

I know you will do fine! I'm thinking about you and will keep the good thoughts flowing! :)
