Re: endometriosis painFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 18 12:23:18 2007
I think there are alot of us who suffer from chronic pain as a result of endo. It isn't uncommon to have pain associated with ovulation, etc. as I think your pain often follows your hormones. As far as the mental health clinic is concerned...I had the same initial feeling as you. What do I say and can they help me at all? It took me awhile to get to the point of going to see someone. I finally got to a place where I couldn't sleep anymore and I was just exhausted and crying all the time, so I gave it a shot. I quickly learned that, of course, they couldn't help me with the endo, but they could help me come to terms with it, mourn the person I was before this came into my life, and learn to cope. I saw a therapist for about 4 months. She really taught me that its OK to be mad, hurt, and she gave me lots of suggestions for coping with the day to day pain level. Obviously I am still in pain, I still have endo, and there are still days that I can't avoid the tears. But, I really feel more validated in my feelings and better able to take care of myself and deal with this. That said...it can't hurt. Alyson
