Hi Leslie,

After reading your question, i went onto a couple of websites for you and this is probably the best explanation i could find.

The American Fertility Society has established a classification for the different stages of endometriosis. This classification is aimed at not only labeling the severity of the disease, but also to be helpful in providing a prognosis for future treatment and the future fertility of the patient. In the past 25 years, efforts have been made to classify endometriosis based on the extent of the spread of the lesions, the involvement of pelvic structures in the disease, and the extent of pelvic adhesions and blockage of the tubes. The latest revised classification, reported in 1985 by the American Fertility Society, uses the point system for stages of endometriosis and divides endometriosis into four stages: Stage I is minimal; Stage II is mild; Stage III is moderate; Stage IV is severe.

I also have been diagnosed with endo, but was never given a classification. I also am not sure if it is only classified in their findings and not in our symptoms. In other words, I'm not sure if they would say one has stage two endo (mild) if they only found a little bit, or if the woman only describes her symptoms as mild. Maybe the two are linked when diagnosing. That is the only thing i am not sure of, but, i hope this explanation helps you.
