Julie,
They usually use stitches that dissolve on their own. After my last
surgery the stitch in my lower incision did the same thing you describe.
The tail end stuck out for about six weeks. One day I gave it a gentle
tug and it came out on its own. It looked like it had dissolved just
under the skin and just hadn't fallen out.
