Re: questing Information about Lupron and Endo SpecialistFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Dec 27 08:03:33 2006
Hi Pam! You can research back through the forum archives for all kinds of posts about Lupron, good and bad. It is a hard decision to make, but one you need to make for yourself. Just do all the research and make a decision best for you. I have done Lupron twice with great success. Each time the pain is gone within a few weeks of starting the shot and I tend to stay pain free for a year or more after stopping. I am one of the lucky ones who tolerate it well. I do not seem to have any long term side effects and while on the shot, the side effects I had were pretty manageable. I did have hot flashes and night sweats and an occasional mood swing. These were worth it to me because I had no pain and for once felt "normal". I even lose weight while on it, which was a nice plus! but seemed to just be water weight I think I hold when taking birth control. The weight comes right back on once I get back on my pills. I chose to do Lupron after much research and feeling like I had no other options. It was a very personal decision. My endo was very bad and although I do not want children, I was not ready to face hysterectomy. I debated for a couple years before I finally decided to try it as a last resort. I did it again in 2004, for the same reasons: endo was really bad and I was not ready for radical surgery. It is a temporary fix, the endo is already getting bad for me again, but for me, a couple years of little or no pain was worth the risk of Lupron. I probably will not do it again, just because I am tired of "band-aiding" the endo and am just trying to ride things out a few more years before I go for hsyto. I wanted to post a positive story so you can see both sides of it-many women have not had good experiences with it. Just do plenty of research and look for unbiased opinions, such as sites not sponsored by TAP, who makes the drug. (I think Jenn also warned of TAP sponsored sites). If you decide it is not for you, do not let any doctor push it on you. TAP has been sued in the past for giving kick backs to doctors who push the drug. In my case, my doctor didn't push it, just suggested it and I made the decision based on my own research and situation. Please feel free to email me direct if you would like to talk more. I hope that whatever you decide to do, you find some relief soon. Hugs! I hope you, and anyone else reading this, has some pain free days soon! Amy Meyer
