breathing tube during surgery?

From: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)

As previously stated, I am having my first lap surgery next wednesday. The surgeon told me I would have a breathing tube inserted when i'm put to sleep and catheter put in also. I was just wondering if this is normal when having surgery for cysts/endo?

Makes this so called "simple surgery" a little more scary than originally anticipated...
