Re: ? For those of you with endometriomasFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Dec 8 08:47:26 2006
Yes, I have had a ruptured endometrioma on my left ovary. I was rushed to the ER and they had to do emergency surgery (laparotomy) to remove it. I am sure my insides are covered with endo because of the rupture. I now have another endometrioma on my right ovary and I am trying to be well enough for surgery to get it removed (I have a bad sinus infection). Hopefully, the ER would not discharge you if it was leaking or ruptured as this can lead to peritonitis (fluid in abdomen) which can be very serious. Also, I have been told that these chocolate cysts can cause internal bleeding if they rupture. I am very fortunate to be alive today. I am sure that if the cyst was in danger of rupturing, your ob/gyn would have scheduled you for surgery sooner. However, you might want to see if you can get it removed sooner than later, especially if it is causing you so much pain. Make sure your doctor is going to excise the cyst - remove it. Burning it, etc. won't do the trick. They tend to come back otherwise. Best of luck to you and God bless,
-- Mary
