Re: TREATMENT AFTER LAP SURGERY - MEDS -HORMONES -ETCETCFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Dec 7 08:05:05 2006
G- My doctor made no bones about telling me that if I wanted to try to get pregnant the best time to do it was within 4-6 months folowing my laproscopy. If you are not ready to try to have a baby (I wasn't), "conventional" wisdom says to go on some type of suppressive therapy to keep your endometriosis from growing back following your sugery. I went on Seasonale following my first lap, then bumped up to Aygestin following my second lap...and eventually on to Danazol. I have chosen not to pursue Lupron until I absolutely have no other option (which I'm hoping won't happen). In my case the hormones have not succeeded in keeping my endo at bay. However, I have other issues that may contribute to that. The choice to take/or not take these meds is really a personal one. My approach was to start with the least serious meds and work my way up the ladder as needed. Some may decide to go for the gusto out of the gate and leave no room for failure of the lesser meds. If you decide not to go on the meds for suppression, there are books available regarding natural and alternative methods. Alot of women have found success using natural progesterone cream (thought not to carry the side effects of prescription progesterone pills), diet, accupuncture, etc. There is a book called the Endometriosis Sourcebook that I think is excellent for discussing the pros and cons of ALL of the treatment options available. There is also a book called Endometriosis: A Key to Healing and Fertility through Nutrition that discusses foods to stay away from that may contain compounds that act similarly to female hormones when digested. Also check out endo-resolved.com for some other ideas. Alyson
