Re: could I have endo?From: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 4 12:29:31 2006
Christy - please don't rush into this lap just because of your insurance deductible! You didn't say what day it was, but it's going to take at the very least a week to recover, probably a week or two more after that so the chances that you'll be feeling up to Florida are unfortunately slim. But maybe more importantly, you need to talk to the doctor directly before you have surgery - you should make sure this ob/gyn is going to be able to thoroughly remove all of your endo. Have you asked her if she can remove it from your bowel or bladder or other difficult areas, if she finds it there? Or will she have other specialists there who can deal with that? Otherwise, you could be looking at a second surgery. How is she going to remove the endo, by excision (cutting it out) or laser ablation (burning it off). If she burns it off, it is more likely to come back sooner - surgeons can't accurately judge the depth of the lesions when they are burning it, and often don't go deep enough, leaving endo to come back. If they want you on Lupron after the surgery it is a good indication that they do not trust their own skill to remove it all. Endo is serious - I think it's sucky that the NP scheduled your surgery and your doctor doesn't believe you about your pain levels. Have you considered trying a new doctor? I know it's a huge hassle to find new doctors, but endo is complicated, and difficult to treat, and a good doctor will admit that and refer you to an endo specialist. I'm going through this now, and while it takes a lot of time and energy, I've finally found an ob/gyn who made an out of network referral for me. (I had other ob/gyns who were either ignorant or they lied to my face and told me they could not do an out of network authorization, so you should find out from your insurance how it works for you.) I'm not dancing in the street yet because it hasn't been approved yet, and I don't know much about the doctor he's referring me to (Andrew Brill, if anyone knows him please share!). I want a referral to Dr. Cook in Los Gatos, but the gyn doesn't know him, so I'm going to work on my PCP about that. Sorry I can't be more positive about your doctor, I do hope some of this helps and you find relief. Best, D.
