Re: could I have endo?From: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 4 11:48:25 2006
Christy, Your symptoms certainly sound like endo...but so do some other pelvic issues. It is entirely possible that endo is the cause, and a lap is really the only way to confirm that. You need to talk to your doctor about what she plans to do if she finds endo during the proceedure. I.e. is she performing the lap purely for diagnostic purposes, or does she plan to remove endo while she's in there if she finds it. If she does plan to remove it I would ask what method she uses. Many of us have found electro cautery to be about useless, while laser ablation tends to be more effective, but still not as effective as excision. Also find out what her surgical experience is in removing endo. If this is not something that she has alot of experience with, I would ask her to refer you to a specialist for the laproscopy. Otherwise if you do have endo there is a chance she could miss some or miss diagnose you if she is unfamiliar with what to look for. As far as the lap recovery... I was out for about a week with both of mine. The first 3-4 days are the toughest. The rest of the week I was just exhausted and not quite ready to be active at all. I would stick close to home for those first few days in case you experience any complications from surgery. Otherwise, if the trip is soon after just take it easy and be sure to get plenty of rest.
