Lupron w/o confirmed diagnosisFrom: Megan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Nov 27 21:19:25 2006
In August, I started having pain associated with drinking alcohol. The pain was in my kidney area, and sparked every time I had a drink of alcohol. The pain then progressed to add my right shoulder, and radiated down to my elbow and I get numbness in my pinky/ring fingers. I went to the doctor, and ended up going through various tests and the docs decided it was my gallbladder. So, I had my gallbladder removed, via lap procedure. W/in 2 days, I developed a pulmonary embolism, and then went on blood thinners. W/in 5 days, they found that I was bleeding internally, and I ended up having abdominal surgery to fix that problem. 17 days later, I was released from the hospital, with one HUGE problem. The pain that I started with, is still there!! At first my docs were content to just "wait it out", put me on percocet, and oxycontin to manage the pain for a month, and then they wanted me to wean off. Well, it is now the end of November, and I am still on the Oxycontin, and the pain is nowhere near improving. SO.... why I am I posting on here! I am typically "normal" as far as my periods go. However, I have had 3 periods in the past 7 weeks. My pain, typically, is worse 2-3 days out of the week, however, during the day or two before my period begins and while it is going on, I have around 5-6 days of tremendous pain. So, I called my ob-gyn to ask about all of this, and he is now suggesting treating me with Lupron. I had a diagnostic lap done in march of 2005, just found that there was "scar tissue" on one of my tubes, but no confirmed "endometriosis". I also had my tubes tied in Jan 2006, the day after my 3rd son was born. So, because of all of these recent complications with operations, he is trying to stear clear of doing another lap. My concern, is Lupron going to cause all sorts of emotional, and physical trauma, for a condition, that we don't even know if I have??!?!?! I am depressed about even the thought of having to go into menopause for even a short time. I have been dealing with this kidney area/shoulder pain since August now. I have gone through 3 operations, and seen endless numbers of doctors trying to figure out what is going on. I have done EVERYTHING that has been suggested, with no success, I just don't know if I can handle, what I perceive is, a tremendous strain on one's body both emotionally and physically. I actually go and see my ob-gyn on Thursday to discuss this, so I have been trying to become as informed as possible. Any thoughts or suggestions that might help make this decision easier for me would be great!!
