Re: In so much pain I am at the end of my rope...any of you suffer from extreme back pain? From: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Nov 11 18:11:11 2006
Kelli, Endometriosis often causes back pain when it is located in the cul de sac and the utero sacral ligament. The ligament contains nerves that are associated with the back, so the implants being located there often aggrivates those nerves. I have coped with the back pain with a heating pad and mild pain meds. You can get the therma care heat packs to put under your clothes when you can't stay plugged into the wall :-) There is a proceedure called a sacral nerve ablation where the doc will cut those nerves in the ligament (during a laproscopy) to disrupt the pain transmission. I had it done during my last lap and it helped significantly. You mentioned that you are seeing an acupunturist for your car accident pain. Have you specifically asked them to treat you for the endo related pain as well? I saw an acupuncturist for close to a year. There were things that they did for my endo pain that were slightly different from the back treatments. Also something cool I had done there was "cupping". It is when they heat the air inside little glass jars and put them on your back, creating suction. Then they move the jars around in a certain pattern to draw out impurities. It is essentially a deep massage. It felt wonderful, but leaves some pretty funny looking hickeys! If you are interested in exploring the diet further, there is a book by Dian Shepperson Mills called Endometriosis A Key to Healing and Fertility through Nutrition. It suggests staying away from alot of cheese and milk products, coffee, soy, and fatty meats (among other things). Hang in there, Alyson
