Hi Laura! No one can really tell you what to do, you just have to make an infomred decision for yourself. 12 years ago, my situation was pretty much as you describe-doctor thoughtI had a cyst and that it would just rupture and be done. When nothing got better, he did a lap and found endo. Initially what he thought had been a cyst during a vaginal exam actually ended up being my ovary, stuck to the side of my uterus from scar tissue from endo.

Your symptoms sound like endo and it cannot be diagnosed without a lap, but surgery is still surgery and something you should think about and research. I don't think you should judge it on family history. No one in my immediate family or even distant family has endo yet I do so it is not necessarily genetic. If you do decide to do it, and they don't find endo, don't feel stupid! You should never feel stupid for being concerned about your health and if they don't find it, at least you know one way or the other.

Good luck in whatever you decide and let us know how you are doing. You will always have the support of fellow endo sisters on the forum. The least we can do is stick together. I find much comfort knowing others can understand.

hugs! Amy Meyer
