Hi Pam--He probably wasn't trying to belittle your pain (I hope), but Aleve, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDs can help endometriosis in another way. They reduce the level of prostaglandins your body makes, which are increased in endometriosis and greatly contribute to the pain and inflammation. Lortabs don't affect the prostaglandin levels, they work on the nervous system instead. But if you try an anti-inflammatory drug like Aleve, you should ask for specific instructions on how to take them for endometriosis. There is an article about using NSAIDs for pain relief here on endozone.org that explains how they work and how to take them for endo--they don't work in one dose, especially if you take them at the height of pain, you have to take them at the first twinge and keep taking them, etc. Until I learned you have to take them before the pain gets bad, I thought they were useless for cramps, but now that I take them correctly they do help a lot.

My husband had a related problem. He has 2 herniated disks in his neck and was taking a lot of ibuprofen for it, which helped. Then the nurse at his Drs office told him that the Lortab they prescribed contained an anti-inflammatory drug so he stopped taking ibuprofen and his pain got much worse. Now he's taking both kinds again, he's doing much better. By the way, I take 2400 mg of ibuprofen every day for a connective tissue disease but it also helps with the pelvic pain a lot. Don't take this much though, without asking a doctor about it first. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. At Fri, 3 Nov 2006, Pam wrote: >
