Re: Can Endometriosis Return After Pregnancy?

Hi Angie

Yep it can and does return after pregnancy. As it can after surgery to excise it or after stopping hormone therapy etc. Pregnancy can inhibit its activeness in the same way as exision and BCP/hormone therapy. But the end of a pregnancy is also an event that can somehow activate endo again where before it was quite well behaved.

It's like if you are getting good pain reduction results by taking birth control or other hormones, then you stop taking them, your endo can rear its head again.

There is no cure.

I had a bad cycle and active endo and fell preg and then got relief. After the preg from the first period things were very bad and only got worse. I had very bad pain, had a laperoscopy, had about 3 months reduced symps then it started returning worse and worse.

Then when it was totally hell all the time I got pregnant with #2 (eventually after years). I got great relief again .

I found after my second pregnancy the pain returned over the following months but not as bad as it was before (though it was heading that way) then 10 months after that babies birth, it was about 60% as bad as it had been at its worst.

I fell pg again with #3. Again I got great relief from symptoms. But this time as soon as my cycle returned after the birth the endo was back with a vengance.

I then went on to have 2 miscarriages within 6 months of the third babies birth, each time getting relief while pregnant and getting bad endo back with my cycle after the m/cs.

So I can say that it depends on what your bodies hormones behave like while pregnant and after the pregnancy ends that determines the impact of endo after a pregnancy.

A pregnancy is a big event in the life of an endo sufferer not only because it can bring relief from symptoms but because after the pregnancy ends its anyones guess as to how hormones and endo are going to behave and things can get very bad or be mild.

Good luck
