-- Hi Mindy Jo--I think how long depends on the lab your doctor uses, anywhere from a day to a week. I have hypothyroidism that caused me to gain about 60 pounds in 2 years, but the first TSH test I had was "normal"-4.5. (Actually the normal levels have changed since then and that probably isn't normal anymore.) I had symptoms but wasn't gaining weight at that time (I used to be normal weight). Two years later, my TSH was 13 or so and I was obese by then. I guess what I am trying to say is, keep getting it tested periodically even if it comes out normal. Good luck, Julie
