second guessing my decisionFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 27 19:31:31 2006
I am scheduled for a laparotomy on 11/15 and I am so scared. I have a chocolate cyst that hasn't gone away (i've been dealing with this for about 3 years now). I have tried all different drugs/hormones, and couldn't tolerate them. The hormones seemed to make my symptoms worse. I had an emergency laparotomy in the past for a ruptured chocolate cyst on the left ovary - and part of the ovary had to be removed. Now, I'm faced with the same situation, but this time it's on my right ovary. My doc seems to think a laparotomy is the best answer - because I've had a C-section and an emergency laparotomy in the past. Any advice? Is it possible he could do a laprascopy instead? Doc seems to think it would be difficult, considering my history. My previous ob/gyn didn't want to do surgery at all- said to try a GI doc instead for my symptoms - have a colonoscopy. Why would one doctor want to do surgery, and another not?? I am very confused and hoping that I am making the right decision. Please give me advice. I have 2 weeks to get everything together and I am very afraid.
