Hi Kelly,

As Lisa responded it can be quite normal to have repeat laps especially if your endo is very severe. However, the method your doc uses to get rid of the endometrial implants during the laparoscopy will determine how often you have to go back for surgery. For instance, excision is a very popular and effective method used by many surgeons to remove endometrial implants. A recent 5-year study of 176 women who had their endometrial implants removed via excision found that 67% experienced improvement after the surgery compared to 25% with worsening symptoms and 8% whose symptoms remained unchanged.

Other methods used to remove implants include laser vaporization, ablation and electrocoagulation.

Talk with your doctor about the different methods available to remove the implants via lap surgery and how effective each are so that you can best choose the method that is right for you.
