Generally, ultrasounds will not show anything unless you have abnormal anatomy or you have cysts, which are common in many women. The only way to truely be diagnosed with endo is through the lap. My doc gave me all the possible options to take when we thought I had endo, but I didn't wan to go through the treatment and not really KNOW what was going on in my body. My doctor suggested either the lap or the lupron. I personally did not want to go through the side effects of lupron if i didnt know for sure that I had endo, so i decided to go ahead and do the lap and I found out I had stage 3 endo. At that point my doc and I decided that the next step should be lupron, and i got my first injection immediately following surgery. I just finished treatment 2 months ago, and so far I feel great. There hasn't been a day yet where I have felt debilitated or been in bad pain. The lap isn't too bad either. I was sore for a couple of weeks, but I actually went back to work a week after surgery as a pediatric nurse. Usually, your abdominal muscles will be sore and week for a good six months. My advice is deff to get the lap. not sure about expense because my insurance covered all of it.
