AT MY WITS END...REALLY...PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!From: Marissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Sep 21 19:25:34 2006
Hi everyone! I am 30yrs old and have stage 4 endometriosis. In Oct last year I had surgery and had both my ovaries removed and my appendix removed due to adhesions etc etc. During surgery, my gyn had to bring in a urologist and colon/rectal surgeon becuase in deciding to remove my uterus, they discovered that endometriosis had fused my uterus to my colon and ureter, making it impossible to remove the uterus. It was explained to my parents that my ovaries needed to be removed because the endometriosis was growing so fast, that bleeding needed to be stopped, and that would be done by removing the ovaries. Fast forward to the present day. Being in menopause has not been fun, but I think it could be worse. Every 2 months, I have to change my hormone treatment becuase it becomes ineffective...meaning i will get migraines, or can't sleep, or wake up drenched with night sweats, etc. etc. I have tried gels, patches, pills, you name it. During the summer, while on Estratest (I think that was it, who knows when I change so often). Anyway, I had a period. I was completely distressed. What was the point of surgery right? Well, the gyn fixed that with seasonale (birth control pills). Well, that worked for the 2 month standard for me, and then, because I woke up EVERY night dripping with sweat, I was switched to Estratest and Prometrium as of 4 days ago. And then as of this AM, my period has started again. BRIGHT red bleeding, and chunky clots, and pain...just like before! I can understand that if my hormone levels are too high, then I will bleed, but this situation has not been controlled in 1 year!!! My mom insists that it is a fine line between finding the right medication and doseage level to help my menopause symptoms while not giving me too much hormones to make me bleed. The doctor told me today to double the prometrium at night and to realize that it will take time for the medication changes to level out my hormone level. Has ANYONE had this situation before? Do you know of ANYONE who has any insight? Are there any clinical trials? Is there a reference website, teaching hospital, ANYTHING? I need support! Please help me! -Marissa Please email me at madfreedom2003@yahoo.com
