I am going to comment on the issue of the Vicodin b/c of the fact that I am a chronic pain patient like many of the ladies on the list.

When someone is taking the medication for a legitimate need: controlling chronic pain addiction doesn't come in to the pic and if it does (and that's a very big if) the percentage is 1%.

Dependence (which allows us to function) and tolerance (meaning that the medication needs to be readjusted when it comes to dosage) are a normal part of the process when taking painkillers of the narcotic kind.

Most people know that Diabetics need to depend on insulin live and function or else they will die. This also, applies to those of us who are chronic pain patients.

Jen, I don't know the full situation with your friend with the back problem but if this back problem truly causes her pain on a daily basis so that she can't function then she has a legitimate need for the medication.

I would recommend that everyone that doesn't know the whole truth of what's going on with chronic pain (which is a neurologic disease) pls go to the American Pain Foundation website at: http://www.painfoundation.org and go to their pain article library and read up on the issue of opioids as well as where they explain the differences between addiction, dependence, and tolerance b/c it really does matter.

Then after that pls read up on H.R. 1020 which has to do with chronic pain. I strongly believe that once this bill passes that diseases like endometriosis will be taken more seriously b/c chronic pain will be acknowledged for what it is: as I said a disease.
