Re: Anyone ever heard of, or had a presacral neurectomy?

Emma, I had a pre sacral neurectomy during my last laproscopy. As it was explained to me, the purpose was to relieve some of the intense back pain caused by the endo, especially if you have endo on your sacral ligament. I would caution you not to expect the proceedure to relieve your pelvic pain. The pre sacral neurectomy involves cutting the nerves in the sacral ligament that lead to the back. So, it doesn't really affect any pain being caused by adhesions, endo on your uterus, ovaries, tubes, or abdominal cavity. It did help my back pain. I just don't know that I would go through surgery to have that one proceedure done. Another thing that I wanted to mention is that you said you have had multiple surgeries during which your endo was cauterized. You may want to check into a more effective method of removal. It has been suggested that cauterization is the least effective method for removing endometriosis. Essentially all it does is burn off the top of the implant. It does not remove the part of the implant that has grown into the tissues. Think of it as leaving a root behind to regrow. There is another more effective method called laser ablation that is able to better get into the tissue. But probably the most effective is excision surgery. You usually have to find a very experienced surgeon to do this, or even an endo specialist. It involves actually cutting the implant out with either a laser or scalpel. There are various stats that I've seen about the results of the surgery, one actually claims a 90% success rate without recurrence. I have had both cauterization and laser ablation and it did not slow my endo down either. You may want to look at the Center For Endometriosis Care, specifically Dr. Albee. There are several more specialists that perform the surgery, but I think his web site is really helpful for answering questions or just learning more about it. So, that is just something to think about. Alyson
