Re: Problems with Seasonale

I have had horrible problems with Seasonale and would like to warn other
possible victims. I was diagnosed with endometriosis 18 years ago and
have been managing it with heavy doses of Motrin during my (very painful
and heavy) periods. The pain is usually bad enough that I have to stay
home one or two days/month. A few months ago, my OB/GYN suggested
Seasonale for pain relief. I decided to try it and had no problems
while I took it for three months (aside from minor spotting). I was
pain-free for those three months. When I finished my first pack of
Seasonale, I had a period which caused me pain like I've never had
before; it was so severe that I was convinced that there was something
seriously wrong with me and went to my OB/GYN. She suggested that I
start again with the Seasonale the following Sunday since I was
pain-free on Seasonale. I did that, but the severe pain (and bleeding)
just wouldn't stop. I went to my PCP and she recommended stopping the
Seasonale (I had been back on it for a week by then) since apparently it
can worsen endometriosis symptoms by causing the endometrium to grow
unchecked (this was news to me!!). I stopped the Seasonale after being
on it for a week, and within 3 days I started bleeding extremely heavily
and having excruciating pain. The pain was so bad that I couldn't sleep
at night and would moan and cry for hours. Motrin gave me relief for
2-3 hours at a time, but took 2 hours to act and since I couldn't take
it more frequently than every 6 hours, I only got relief roughly 40-50%
of the time. The pain subsided after 3 days and now I have decided not
to use Seasonale again. Just wanted to post my story in case there are
other people thinking about using Seasonale for relief of endometriosis
pain. I missed about 3 weeks of work and have endured pain much, much
worse than I ever had before, when I was not on any type of oral
contraceptives.

It lasted fourty one days. I called my doctor after 15 days and she said it was normal, then after 30 days I called again and she said to go off the med for a week and start again. I bled very heavily for the week I was off and started again. After two and a half weeks back on Seasonale I started bleeding agian for another eleven days. Finally my doctor took me off. I've had trouble taking any form of birth control continuously. Now I started Demulin. Don't know much about it and whether anyone else does? My seasonale experience sounds similar to others though. make sure you call your doctor. Excessive bleeding can cause anemia too.
