HMO coverage

Has anyone had any experience getting coverage out of network with their HMO? I have Optima Health HMO in Virginia and they said they will not cover laproscopic excision at the CEC in Atlanta. I know there are no doctors in this area that can perform that surgery, my doctor already said all they can do is laser it off the surface which does not work. If anyone has any advice on dealing with your HMO please let me know. Thank you, Amber
