Re: Painful Endo

IF your doctor comes anywhere close to suggesting a hysterectomy at this point you should run from the office to a new gyn. There are alot of options available to you still before you need to consider anything that drastic. The good news is you made it 11 months post surgery before the pain started again. I too was diagnosed in August '04. I went on Seasonale immediately post surgery (never had any relief from that first surgery) and had alot of problems with it. Break through bleeding, constant pain and cramping, etc. If you had some luck after your surgery, chances are something other than the Seasonale may work for you. There is the option of continuous birth control pills, progesterone only pills (such as Aygestin), a class of drugs that includes Danazol, and another including Lupron. Check out this web site: http://www.morehead.org/wellconnected/000074.htm It discusses the available hormone treatment methods available. You can print the information and take it to your appointment. Discuss all of the options with your doctor and see what she thinks. Unfortunately so many doctors go to Lupron as a fail safe. It works wonders for some women and does nothing for others...and can carry some lasting side effects. Research any of the drugs you are considering talking to your doctor about so that when you go in there you are armed with enough information to be able to have an informed discussion about what you are comfortable with. Almost all of the medications available to us carry a potential for some very unpleasant side effects. You have to decide for yourself what you are comfortable putting in your body. If you don't feel like your doctor is willing to work with you to find a medication that you feel comfortable taking seek a second opinion. AND if you don't feel comfortable with any of those options, consider alternatives such as acupuncture, diet, and/or holistic medicine. Alyson
