Don't you know that the only stupid question is the one not asked? ;)

I'm sorry if I confused you as my mind is not all there today. The "name brand" patch I was referring to is Duragesic. If your doctor doesn't request the brand name Duragesic when writing the prescription, you're likely (depending on insurance I guess) to end up with the generic. I just recently ended up with the generic and I might as well just take it out of the package and throw it in the trash because it's not doing anything at all and I have to take two or three percocet on top of it just to get by.

What is the strength of your patch? If he started you on a 25, then it may be unnoticable and you might have to go up to 50 for relief. Everyone is different.
