Re: Have you had a hysterectomy?From: Dena (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jul 26 20:03:15 2006
Hi Brenda, It has been two years since my hysterectomy. I am absolutely miserable and in more pain than ever. A hysterectomy is definitely not a cure for endo. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he informed me that since nothing is showing on ultrasound (ie cysts, ovarian remnants) he believes my endo is continuing to be fed by different types of estrogen that the body produces and stores in different parts of the body. I can tell you that starting hrt immediately after having is hyst is really defeating the whole purpose of the hyst. I began hrt within two months and almost immediately began having severe pain again. The last resort for me is a medicine used to treat breast cancer in post menopausal women. My doctor told me that it's supposed to be an "anit-estrogen" and stop it all from feeding the endo. It's not approved for use on endo patients, but I searched the archives on this forum and read some pretty positive posts about it. It's called letrozole. I took my first one tonight and said a prayer as I washed it down. I wish you luck with whatever you choose to do. I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, just wanted to be honest and share my own experience with you. Take care.
